A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

HONORING MRS. TRUDY FREMONT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY AND RECOGNIZING HER STRENGTH AND PERSEVERANCE AS A DEVOTED CAREGIVER FOR MANY YEARS, HER DEDICATION AS A WIFE AND MOTHER, HER MANY AND VARIED CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY, AND TAKING NOTICE OF THE FINE EXAMPLE SHE SETS FOR HER FELLOW SOUTH CAROLINIANS.

Whereas, it is appropriate to honor South Carolinians who have contributed significantly to the community, and Mrs. Trudy Fremont of Greenville County has certainly lived a life worthy of recognition; and

Whereas, the former Gertrude Reed, Mrs. Fremont has been a member of the faculty of Bob Jones University in Greenville for over thirty years and has been a frequent and popular speaker to parents' groups, family relations seminars, women's retreats, and various church groups; and

Whereas, she received her R.N. from Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio, her B.S. degree in nursing from the University of Dayton, and her M.S. degree in Child Development and Family Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with additional studies at Bob Jones University and the Merrill-Palmer Institute of Human Development at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In 1987, she received her Certification for Family Life Education; and

Whereas, Mrs. Fremont worked at several hospitals in Ohio, Wisconsin, and at the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children and Barge Hospital in Greenville; and

Whereas, this hard-working and giving South Carolinian was also head of the nursing education program for Bob Jones University for eleven years and presently serves as the medical missions advisor; and

Whereas, Mrs. Fremont's civic involvement has included membership in the following organizations: the American and South Carolina Home Economics Associations, the Southern, South Carolina, and Greenville Associations of Children Under Six, and the South Carolina Council of Family Relations. She is listed in such prestigious publications as "Who's Who in Education: Women Leaders in Science", "Who's Who of Women in the World", "Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans", "Personalities in the South", "The World Who's Who of Women in Education", "Who's Who in American Nursing", and "Who's Who Among Human Service Professionals"; and

Whereas, this multi-talented woman is also the co-author with her husband of the popular books: "Formula for Family Unity" and "Forming A New Generation". She co-authored the Christian family textbook and the teacher's manual for high schools entitled "Family Living for Christian Schools". In addition to books, Mrs. Fremont has also written numerous articles for magazines and newsletters including articles for "The Joyful Woman" and she co-authored "Educating Children for God's Service", "Strength in Spite of Stress", and "How to Eliminate Child Neglect and Remain Financially Solvent"; and

Whereas, this accomplished South Carolinian has managed to juggle an impressive and successful career with a rich family life. She is the devoted wife of Walter G. Fremont who is the dean emeritus of the School of Education at Bob Jones University; and

Whereas, from 1962 to 1990, Mr. and Mrs. Fremont traveled the globe holding family seminars all across the United States, the Philippines, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Cypress, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands; and

Whereas, active members of Hampton Park Baptist Church in Greenville, the couple has shared both their unwavering faith in God as well as their valuable expertise with countless numbers of people not just in their local community and State but also the world; and

Whereas, truly people of a strong and unwavering faith who practice what they preach by putting family first, their extended family includes daughter Gail Berger and her husband Dan, son Gil Fremont and his wife Julie, and their late daughter Elaine Fremont. Mr. and Mrs. Fremont are proud to boast six grandchildren: Dan Berger II, Tammy Gates, Michelle Berger, Jessica Fremont, Heather Fremont, and Whitney Fremont in addition to great-grandson Josiah Gates; and

Whereas, since Mr. Fremont's diagnosis with Lou Gehrig's disease, the Fremonts have demonstrated the grace of God in such a powerful way. Mrs. Fremont took on the additional role of loving caregiver, and she and her husband together have nobly fought this disease for many years now with their faith remaining steadfast all the while; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly pause to honor Mrs. Trudy Fremont as her strong faith, love of family, and dedication to community makes her an outstanding role model for all our State's citizens.

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor Mrs. Trudy Fremont of Greenville County and recognize her strength and perseverance as a devoted caregiver for many years, her dedication as a wife and mother, her many and varied contributions to the community, and take notice of the fine example she sets for her fellow South Carolinians.
