A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THE LATE GEORGE "BUNNY" GUY, SR., CHESTER COUNTY COUNCILMAN AND BUSINESSMAN, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS DEATH.

Whereas, Chester County Councilman and businessman George "Bunny" Guy, Sr., died February 12, 2006, after years as a fixture in the Chester community; and

Whereas, during his sixteen years of service on the council - the first tenure of a black man in that position - he initiated a revival of the county's NAACP chapter by sponsoring legislation and founding an annual parade to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and

Whereas, his life was a model of the successes Dr. King foresaw for African-Americans, as he worked hard and successfully at the insurance business before establishing the Bunny Club Night Club and Victor Cab Company; and

Whereas, Mr. Guy's integrity was a testament to his faith, nurtured at Brown's Chapel AME Zion Church where he was the choir director for forty years; and

Whereas, the community of Chester will sorely miss his contribution, but his legacy continues through his good works and through his loving family: his wife Mary and his three children, George "Ben" Guy, Jr., Corey Guy, and Stephanie Jackson; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are privileged to honor the dedicated leaders of the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives extend their deepest sympathy and sorrow to the family and friends of the late George "Bunny" Guy, Sr., Chester County councilman and businessman on the occasion of his death.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Mary Guy.
