VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE BATESBURG-LEESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON ITS MOST IMPRESSIVE CAPTURING OF THE 2005 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACHING STAFF, LED BY HEAD COACH COURTNEY MCINNIS, ON AN UNFORGETTABLE SEASON.
Whereas, strength, passion, perseverance, and a strong desire to win, along with the ability to play as a team, are quintessential attributes of any championship caliber team; and
Whereas, these key qualities instilled into each member of the Batesburg-Leesville High School "Panthers" football team by Coach McInnis and his staff, combined with the natural talent already possessed by each player, resulted in a true championship team; and
Whereas, the Panthers' exciting road to the AA football crown began with a 31-7 defeat of Pelion at home, then impressive victories on the road over Broome, Pendleton, Emerald, and finally Cheraw, each of the four opponents holding the top slot in each successive round, only to be toppled by Batesburg-Leesville; and
Whereas, the Panthers overcame two regular season losses to triumph over the Cheraw Braves by a score of 27-21 in a classic hard-fought, nail-biting championship game at Williams-Brice Stadium and to post a 2005 record of 13-2; and
Whereas, this championship was an especially momentous occasion for retiring Assistant Coach Heyward Bouknight who has been a devoted friend and mentor of the Batesburg-Leesville High School football team since 1985; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are privileged to recognize the hard work and discipline of the members of the Batesburg-Leesville High School 2005 football team, Coach McInnis, and his staff: Assistant Coaches Heyward Bouknight, Ross Cary, John Nix, Shane Bryant, Joe Barr, Jake Getson, Eddie Hopper, John Burgess, Barry Thomas, Bob Roudybush, Lex Boozer, Bernard Trotter, and Raymond Davis; Head Trainer, Scott Thomas; and Athletic Director, Gary Phillips. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate the Batesburg-Leesville High School football team of Lexington County on its most impressive capturing of the 2005 Class AA State Championship title, and honor the players and their coaching staff, led by Head Coach Courtney McInnis, on an unforgettable season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Batesburg-Leesville High School football team, Head Coach Courtney McInnis, and his coaching staff.
