A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE REVEREND JAMES E. MASSEY OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LIVES OF HIS CONGREGANTS AND CHURCH COMMUNITY UPON THE SEVEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF HIS LEADERSHIP OF HOLLY SPRINGS BAPTIST CHURCH.

Whereas, the son of the late Abner E. Massey and Marie Simpson Massey, Reverend James E. Massey has moved many with his extraordinary faith and commitment to the furtherance of his church and its people; and

Whereas, a devoted husband and family man, Reverend Massey celebrates a loving, 38-year marriage with his wife, Janie Wilson Massey, and adores his two sons and one granddaughter; and

Whereas, a graduate of Westside High School, Reverend Massey served in the United States Army for nearly 27 years, retiring as a first sergeant. Throughout his Army career, he completed tours in Vietnam, Korea, Jordan, and Europe and received two purple hearts for his courageous service; and

Whereas, recognizing his exceptional leadership, the Governor of Kentucky commissioned Reverend Massey a lifetime Kentucky Colonel; and

Whereas, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Wesleyan University, he has studied at McKendree Business College, Anderson College, Erskine College, and is presently studying for a Master's Degree in Theology; and

Whereas, Reverend Massey has served as Pastor of Holly Springs Baptist Church for the past seven years and continues to work as an employee of the United States Postal Service, where he has worked for thirteen years; and

Whereas, dedicated to helping those in need in whatever way he can, Revered Massey participates in jail ministries and ministers to the sick on a regular basis; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize such an outstanding leader and devoted minister. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Reverend James E. Massey of Greenville County for his outstanding contributions to the lives of his congregants and church community upon the seven year anniversary of his leadership of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Reverend James E. Massey.
