A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 9 BUSINESS EAST FROM THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF LORIS TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 9 BY-PASS AND THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 9 BUSINESS WEST FROM THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF LORIS TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 917 THE "JAMES P. STEVENS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" AND TO ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG BOTH PORTIONS OF HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "JAMES P. STEVENS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".

Whereas, the late Honorable James P. Stevens served the State of South Carolina as a State Senator representing Senate District Twenty-eight for twenty one years; and

Whereas, he willingly gave of his time to support numerous civic, religious, and professional organizations throughout his lifetime, and made lasting and significant contributions to his State and specifically to the City of Loris; and

Whereas, the City of Loris and the State of South Carolina owe a special debt of gratitude to Senator Stevens for his leadership in addressing the needs of the City of Loris, Horry County, and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper to name portions of South Carolina Highway 9 Business in Horry County after Senator Stevens to honor his memory. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 9 Business East from the city limits of the City of Loris to its intersection with South Carolina Highway 9 By-Pass and the portion of South Carolina Highway 9 Business West from the city limits of the City of Loris to its intersection with South Carolina Highway 917 the "James P. Stevens Memorial Highway", and to erect appropriate markers or signs along both portions of highway that contain the words "James P. Stevens Memorial Highway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
