A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF SCRIVEN SPENCER BRUNSON, JR. OF SUMTER COUNTY, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30, 2005, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened by the death of Scriven Spencer Brunson, Jr. of Sumter on March 30, 2005, at the age of seventy-nine; and

Whereas, Mr. Brunson was born in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Scriven Spencer Brunson, Sr. and the late Meta Boykin Brunson. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during World War II, and also a member of the American Legion Post No. 15; and

Whereas, Mr. Brunson was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, a long-time youth football and baseball athletic coach, and a member of the Sumter-Lee Hunting Club; and

Whereas, Mr. Brunson was a retired chemical salesman and co-owner of "Savor the Flavor" and a member of First Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the Senate extends its deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Scriven Spencer Brunson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lee Phillips Brunson; a son, Scriven Spencer Brunson, III and wife Lee; a daughter, Anne Brunson Thomas and husband Robert E. Thomas, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, David Brunson, Leigh Richardson, Ryan Brunson, Suzanne Brunson, Ret Thomas, and Carolyn Brunson; 3 great-grandchildren, Janie Richardson, McKenzie Richardson, and Ben Thomas; and was preceded in death by a son, Jack Phillips Brunson. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Scriven Spencer Brunson, Jr. of Sumter on Wednesday, March 30, 2005, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Scriven Spencer Brunson, Jr.
