A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR RAYMOND FELTON OF LATTA, SOUTH CAROLINA FOR AN OUTSTANDING BASKETBALL SEASON WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELS AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE IN LEADING THE TEAM TO CAPTURE THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, Raymond Bernard Felton, Jr. was born on June 26, 1984 to Raymond and Barbara Felton and started to dribble a basketball at the age of two; and

Whereas, Raymond attended Latta High School where he was the star point guard for the Vikings basketball team; and

Whereas, the 6 foot 1 junior at the University of North Carolina has for three years started for the Tar Heel basketball team as point guard; and

Whereas, his statistics for the Tar Heels are outstanding, including leading the team in steals in each of his first two seasons and starting in all sixty-five games his first two years at the University of North Carolina; and

Whereas, among his numerous awards, Raymond Felton was most recently named winner of the Bob Cousy Award which is given to the nation's top college point guard, and was named Most Valuable Player as a freshman; and

Whereas, South Carolina native Raymond Felton's three free throws sealed the NCAA championship for the University of North Carolina's basketball team on Monday April 4, 2005; and

Whereas, Felton's seventeen points, seven assists, and one key steal in the final minute of the game were instrumental in securing the title for the Tar Heels; and

Whereas, the Tar Heels defeated the University of Illinois seventy-five to seventy, clinching the fourth National Championship Title for the team, with a record for the year of an impressive thirty-three wins and four losses; and

Whereas, we applaud Raymond's talent, humility, and cool composure under pressure and congratulate him on an outstanding job in leading the University of North Carolina Tar Heels Basketball Team in a successful 2004-2005 season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the state of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor Raymond Felton of Latta, South Carolina for an outstanding basketball season with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels and recognize his exceptional performance in leading the team to capture the NCAA Championship Title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Raymond Bernard Felton, Jr.
