Whereas, birthdays are joyous occasions to be shared with one's family and friends, and the members of the Senate are honored to recognize this very special day on which Robert. E. "Bob" Prevatte will celebrate eighty years of a full and wonderful life; and
Whereas, Mr. Prevatte was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina on April 14, 1925; and
Whereas, after high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II, after which he entered Wofford College where he played blocking back for the Terrier Football Team; and
Whereas, before he graduated from Wofford College in 1950, he met and married Marie Ostergard; and
Whereas, upon his graduation from Wofford, he began coaching high school football in Fayetteville, North Carolina, before returning to South Carolina to coach at Gaffney High School in 1956. He tirelessly recruited local boys to join the team and due to Mr. Prevatte's hard work and dedication, he led the team to many state championship titles, and was given the honor of coaching in both the annual North-South all star football game and the Shrine Bowl; and
Whereas, after compiling an outstanding record of 129 wins, twenty-nine losses, and eleven ties, Mr. Prevatte retired from coaching; and
Whereas, after his retirement from coaching in 1969, Mr. Prevatte had a successful career in management at Spartan Foods, the corporation that became the nation's largest Hardee's franchise.
