A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF CARMEN WILKERSON ANDERSON, OF EDGEFIELD, AND TO EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Carmen Wilkerson Anderson of Edgefield who passed away at age 86 on April 8, 2005; and

Whereas, Mrs. Anderson, born in York County and a longtime resident of Edgefield, South Carolina, was a graduate of Winthrop College; and

Whereas, she was a devoted teacher and mentor, teaching office practices and procedures for twenty-three years at Dreher High School in Columbia and at Edgefield and Strom Thurmond High Schools in Edgefield; and

Whereas, the mother of four sons, Mrs. Anderson was the beloved matriarch of her family and the devoted, loving, hands-on mom to her four boys Joe, Jr., Ben, Gregg, and Jeff, and the adored grandmother of seven grandchildren; and

Whereas, she took great pride in the many academic, athletic, professional, and personal accomplishments of her sons and over a twenty-year period never missed an athletic event in which one of her boys was participating, from little league ball through her son's football career at Clemson; and

Whereas, she was recognized for her strong maternal attributes and her motherly love and devotion, which she showered on many, when she was honored as the Clemson Mother of the Year by the Tiger Brotherhood in 1972; and

Whereas, she was a faithful member of Edgefield United Methodist Church and a loyal member of the Les Dames Des Fleurs Garden Club for over fifty years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Anderson was loved and respected by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed. In addition to her sons and grandchildren, she is survived by four sisters and two brothers; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting for the members of the South Carolina Senate to pause in their deliberations to recognize the life and passing of such a distinguished daughter of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate express their sorrow upon the death of Carmen Wilkerson Anderson, of Edgefield, and to extend deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Carmen Wilkerson Anderson.
