AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 1-7-310, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE TERM OF OFFICE FOR SOLICITORS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A SOLICITOR'S TERM OF OFFICE BEGINS AT NOON ON THE FIRST WEDNESDAY FOLLOWING THE SECOND TUESDAY IN JANUARY FOLLOWING HIS ELECTION AND ENDS AT NOON ON THE FIRST WEDNESDAY FOLLOWING THE SECOND TUESDAY IN JANUARY FOUR YEARS LATER.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Solicitors, terms of office
SECTION 1. Section 1-7-310 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 1-7-310. There is one solicitor for each judicial circuit, to be elected by the qualified electors of the circuit, who holds his office for the term of four years. The term of office of a solicitor begins at noon on the first Wednesday following the second Tuesday in January following his election and ends at noon on the first Wednesday following the second Tuesday in January four years later. A solicitor must be licensed to practice law by the South Carolina Bar at the time of his election and throughout his term."
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
Ratified the 17th day of March, 2005.
Approved the 22nd day of March, 2005.
