A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING LINDLEY MAYER OF GREENVILLE ON RECEIVING THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD, THANKING HER FOR HER NUMEROUS HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND WISHING HER MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Lindley Mayer, of Greenville, is a junior at J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, South Carolina; and

Whereas, she was recently named a top youth volunteer in South Carolina for 2006, in the 11th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

Whereas, the award, America's largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteerism, was created in 1995 to emphasize the importance volunteering has on the nation and to encourage all young Americans to contribute their time and energy in the community; and

Whereas, Miss Mayer founded a nonprofit organization that seeks to educate others about children with disabilities and to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Greenville, even selling handcrafted ladybug decorations to help raise funds. She also speaks at schools, churches, and civic groups to encourage acceptance of disabled people. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulates Miss Lindley Mayer on the honor of receiving the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, thanks her for her numerous hours of community service, and wishes her much success in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lindley Mayer.
