A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE BISHOP WENDELL HENDRIX, PASTOR OF THE CHURCH OF GOD ON FISH HATCHERY ROAD IN GASTON, FOR HIS DEVOTED AND FAITHFUL THIRTY-YEAR CAREER AS AN ORDAINED MINISTER, AND TO DECLARE SUNDAY, MAY 21, 2006, AS "BISHOP WENDELL HENDRIX DAY" IN LEXINGTON COUNTY.

Whereas, Bishop Wendell Hendrix became pastor of the Church of God on Fish Hatchery Road in Gaston in 1985 when he started the church and has served there faithfully ever since; and

Whereas, Bishop Hendrix has faithfully given more than thirty-one years of leadership, guidance, dedication, and commitment to reaching, teaching, and preaching in the name of Jesus Christ, and this year marks his thirtieth anniversary as an ordained minister; and

Whereas, he was born in Greenville County to Reverend Oliver Henry and Ena Elizabeth Hendrix. He has been an ordained minister for thirty years and served as pastor of Olympia Church of God and Dunbar Road Church of God before starting Fish Hatchery Road Church of God. Membership there has grown from eighteen original members to three hundred twenty-five; and

Whereas, Bishop Hendrix is always a source of spiritual support for his congregation. He has spent more than twenty years unselfishly inspiring his congregation with his unwavering faith and dedicated service to God, and while serving as pastor, he also sings and plays the piano for all the church's assemblies; and

Whereas, his faithful wife, Betty L. Moore Hendrix, is always by his side, and they are the loving parents of one son, Wendell Hendrix, Jr., three daughters, Missy Proctor, Tina Jeffcoat, Penny Porter, and nine wonderful grandchildren; and

Whereas, after suffering a stroke in 2003 and recovering from heart surgery, doctors indicated that he would not be able to pastor or play the piano any longer, as he would not be able to see or walk. Bishop Hendrix overcame all this and now is as strong as ever; and

Whereas, to recognize his accomplishments and thank him for his steadfast commitment to the Lord and his church, the members of his congregation will honor him with a pastor appreciation day on May 21, 2006; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and honor this wonderful man of God for a lifetime of service and commitment as an ordained pastor and extend to him best wishes on the occasion of his being honored by his appreciative congregation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and congratulate Bishop Wendell Hendrix, Pastor Of The Church Of God on Fish Hatchery Road in Gaston, for his devoted and faithful thirty-year career as an ordained minister, and declare Sunday, May 21, 2006, as "Bishop Wendell Hendrix Day" in Lexington County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Bishop Wendell Hendrix.
