A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE SUE CLEVELAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHOIR OF PIEDMONT, SOUTH CAROLINA AND ITS DIRECTOR, MS. ROBIN K. IRVIN, ON THEIR EXUBERANT AND OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE OF "THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER" AND "FREEDOM IS COMING" AT THE STATEHOUSE ON MARCH 30, 2005, TO COMMEMORATE "NATIONAL MUSIC MONTH" IN THE SCHOOLS.

Whereas, music, children, and national pride all share the spotlight during the month of March, which is "National Music Month" in schools nationwide; and

Whereas, this year's project, entitled "Sing America", calls for students throughout the nation to learn the national anthem and to lead in encouraging the singing of our national anthem at community events; and

Whereas, the participation of the Sue Cleveland Elementary School Choir in this project exemplifies the theme of the program and the spirit of sharing with the community; and

Whereas, the choir, made up of the following fourth and fifth graders, has practiced and rehearsed diligently under the coaching and teaching of their Choir Director, Robin K. Irvin: Alexa Alexander, Blaine Bannister, Jessica Bouvia, Caleb Bright, Kaitlyn Calhoun, Matthew Callerame, Lauren Dalton, Tyler Ellenburg, Chris Elrod, Brittney Fisher, Javante Geddie, Renan Gilliam, A. J. Grant, Jade Jennings, Erika Jordan, Tyler Kersey, Austin King, Ashley Laudermilk, Jassmine Mathis, Queona Mattison, Tiffany McCall, C. J. McCarter, Danielle McCollum, Sondesiya McHerring, Brittney Miller, Kayla Moore, Maya Moore, Virginia Morgan, Danielle Nix, Bethany Odom, Raven Pittman, Bobbea Prosser, Ashley Robinson, Maria Rubio, Mirna Santibanez, Brent Thomason, Colt Tilman, Nic Vaughn, Angela Wedge, Ashlee Wedge, and Brooke Young; and

Whereas, the children spread national pride and cheer throughout with their heartfelt renditions of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Freedom is Coming"; and

Whereas, the choir will continue spreading this good cheer as they perform at the Jean Laney Harris Cancer Benefit Luncheon at Seawell's; and

Whereas, members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are proud to recognize and commend the Sue Cleveland Elementary School Choir, which continues to enrich the surrounding community, and the entire state, by lifting their voices in song and sharing their talents with pride. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, hereby recognize and commend the Sue Cleveland Elementary School Choir and its Director, Ms. Robin K. Irvin, on their exuberant and outstanding performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Freedom is Coming" at the Statehouse on March 30, 2005, to commemorate "National Music Month" in the schools.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Director Robin K. Irvin and the School Choir of Sue Cleveland Elementary School.
