A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF HARVEY A. HOUSAND OF HORRY COUNTY ON MAY 23, 2005, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened by the death of Harvey A. Housand of Horry County, and his heroic spirit, kind acts, and warm heart will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his community; and

Whereas, Harvey A. Housand was born in Nichols, and was one of nine children born to the late Louis Henry Housand and Golda Harrelson Housand; and

Whereas, a devoted husband and family man, Mr. Housand shared a loving marriage with his wife, Evyleen E. Housand, and enjoyed two adoring daughters, Wanda Gail Anderson of San Antonio, Texas, and Iris H. Perry of Garden City; and

Whereas, the memory and wisdom of Mr. Housand lives on in the hearts and minds of his four grandchildren, Julie E. Oropeza, Sommer R. Weaver, Richard L. Perry, and D. Zachary Perry; and his five great-grandchildren, Isaiah Oropeza, Bailey E. Oropeza, Emma Grace Weaver, R.J. Perry, and Kaya Perry; and

Whereas, beginning his career in police work in 1959 as a dispatcher with the Horry County Police Department, he became an Horry County Policeman and a Conway City Policeman, joined the Horry County Sheriff's Department, and rose through the ranks of the department, retiring from the Sheriff's Department as Chief Deputy; and

Whereas, steadfast in his faith and commitment to his community, Mr. Housand was a member of North Conway Baptist Church and served as a United States Army peacetime veteran; and

Whereas, Mr. Housand is sorely missed, but will always be remembered as an outstanding son of South Carolina who possessed great strength and courage. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Harvey A. Housand of Horry County on May 23, 2005, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Housand's wife, Evyleen E. Housand.
