A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF REVEREND GEORGE WELCH BROWN, SR., (RETIRED), OF HOLLYWOOD, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Reverend George Welch Brown, Sr., (retired), of Hollywood, on Friday, January 25, 2008; and

Whereas, Reverend Brown served with distinction for many years as presiding elder of the Beaufort District, South Carolina Conference, Seventh Episcopal District, African Methodist Episcopal Church, thereby earning a "well done, good and faithful servant" from his Lord and the fellow Christians he served; and

Whereas, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, the late Dollie Doctor Brown, and was the father of ten children, Delores B. Richardson, Lila B. Nedd, Frances E.B. Pinckney, Reverend George Welch Brown, Jr., Marjorie L. Brown, Phoenicia B. Flowers, Roxcena B. Rozier, Kenneth J. Brown, Reverend Nathaniel Brown, and Michelle D.B. Brinson; and

Whereas, this gracious man of God will be greatly missed not only by his colleagues and other friends in the church but also by the many community members whose lives he impacted. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Reverend George Welch Brown, Sr., (retired), of Hollywood, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Delores B. Richardson for the family.
