PROCLAIMING FRIDAY, APRIL 18, 2008, DILLON COUNTY FIRST STEPS AWARENESS DAY AND RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE DILLON COUNTY FIRST STEPS PROGRAM AND THE DILLON COUNTY FIRST STEPS PARTNERSHIP BOARD.
Whereas, the Dillon County First Steps Partnership Board will sponsor Dillon County First Steps Awareness Day on Friday, April 18, 2008, in Dillon; and
Whereas, it is the goal of the Dillon County First Steps Program and the Dillon County First Steps Partnership Board to focus attention on readying the county's youngest citizens to enter first grade motivated and prepared to finish high school and to prepare a sound educated workforce for responsible, qualified, dependable, and reliable roles in the workplace in South Carolina and America; and
Whereas, the Dillon County First Steps Partnership Board is interested in assisting the Dillon County First Steps Program with business, industry, and community funding in order to invest in Dillon County's youngest citizens; and
Whereas, it is the goal of the Dillon County First Steps Program and the Dillon County First Steps Partnership Board to increase the number of children participating in developmentally appropriate and quality pre-kindergarten programs; to increase the capacity of parents to be their child's best and most important teacher by expanding home visitation services through the Parent-Child Home Program; to increase the number of books and introduce literacy activities for parents and their children and increase the number of parents reading to children in the comfort of their homes through the Dolly Party Imagination Library; to improve the quality of child care by providing professional development opportunities to child care staff via child care video conferences or child care networking sessions; and to increase the number of children receiving quality child care by making child care affordable to parents; and
Whereas, the Dillon County First Steps Program has received one hundred fifty thousand dollars to provide child care scholarships for Dillon County children during the next two years, and to offer additional services to help families prepare their children for school; and
Whereas, First Steps awarded a three hundred thousand dollar Center of Excellence grant to Little Treasures Christian Learning Center, granting scholarships to seventeen children. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, proclaim Friday, April 18, 2008, Dillon County First Steps Awareness Day and recognize the accomplishments of the Dillon County First Steps Program and the Dillon County First Steps Partnership Board.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Dillon County First Steps Program and the Dillon County Partnership Board.
