A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SPIRAX SARCO, INCORPORATED, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, FOR TEN YEARS OF OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE, AND TO CONGRATULATE ITS MANAGEMENT AND EMPLOYEES FOR RECEIVING THE 2007 TOP PLANT AWARD FROM PLANT ENGINEERING MAGAZINE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Spirax Sarco, Incorporated, of Blythewood has been one of three plants across the nation named 2007 Top Plant of the year by Plant Engineering Magazine; and

Whereas, Spirax Sarco, the world's leading provider of steam-system solutions, and dedicated to providing knowledge, service, and products for the control and efficient use of steam and other industrial fluids, moved to Blythewood in 1998; and

Whereas, although Spirax Sarco has been in Blythewood for a decade, it boasts almost a century of customer service and high performance across the United States; and

Whereas, committed to environmentally responsible manufacturing and dedicated to providing knowledge, service, and products for the control and efficient use of steam and other industrial fluids, the Blythewood plant has not only maintained the company's profitability, but enhanced it; and

Whereas, with nearly two hundred employees at the Blythewood plant, Spirax Sarco has a matching-gift program that provides incentives for employees to support educational institutions; and

Whereas, the company also offers employees a program of educational assistance that provides up to ten thousand dollars per year. Over the past ten years, fifty-five employees have participated in the program, and eight of them have earned degrees; and

Whereas, the company maintains business partnerships with nearly two hundred South Carolina firms, representing approximately thirteen million dollars in revenue to them annually; and

Whereas, for a decade, Spirax Sarco has successfully supported numerous local and national charities in hosting American Red Cross blood drives that average sixty pints of blood a year, raising employee donations for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation totaling almost twenty thousand dollars, and raising fifteen thousand dollars for the American Heart Association; and

Whereas, each year Plant Engineering Magazine names three manufacturing facilities that demonstrate a commitment to excellence both in terms of production and product, and the Top Plant Award recognizes operational excellence through the use of best practices in plant engineering management; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the standard of excellence that Spirax Sarco brings to our fine State and congratulate the company's recent award as 2007 Top Plant of the year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Spirax Sarco, Incorporated, of Richland County, for ten years of operational excellence, and congratulate its management and employees for receiving the 2007 Top Plant Award from Plant Engineering Magazine.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pat Tillisch of the Spirax Sarco plant in Blythewood.
