TO AMEND SECTION 59-26-85, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS CERTIFICATION, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT TEACHERS WHO ARE CERTIFIED BY THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS (NBPTS), BUT NOT YET CERTIFIED BY THE STATE, SHALL RECEIVE AN INCREASE IN PAY EQUAL TO TWO-THIRDS OF THE AMOUNT PROVIDED FOR STATE-CERTIFIED TEACHERS WHO ALSO ARE NBPTS CERTIFIED.
Amend Title To Conform
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 59-26-85 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding subsection (C) at the end to read:
"(C) Teachers who are certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), but not yet certified by the State, shall receive an increase in pay equal to that amount provided for state-certified teachers who also are NBPTS certified."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
