TO COMMEND AND THANK GLENICE B. PEARSON FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE TO SOUTH CAROLINA'S NONPROFIT CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS AND HER AUTHORSHIP OF THE OFFICIAL STATE MANUAL FOR THESE ORGANIZATIONS.
Whereas, Glenice B. Pearson, a native of Columbia, has dedicated her career to the benefit of South Carolina's nonprofit organizations, including her authorship of the official state manual for these organizations; and
Whereas, having extensive experience in working with nonprofit organizations as both volunteer and staff member, she has served on their governing boards, held management positions in almost every functional area, designed and implemented numerous workshops for community activists in a wide range of social arenas, and served as an active participant and leader in the formation of many new nonprofit entities, especially in communities that are challenged by long-term neglect; and
Whereas, as a service to South Carolina's citizens in the mid 1990s, Ms. Pearson, without compensation, authored the official manual for nonprofit organizations in South Carolina, Guidelines for South Carolina Nonprofit Charitable Organizations, subsequently also completing two revisions of this important document, to optimize access to information critical in the formation of nonprofit organizations in the State; and
Whereas, she continued her voluntary service to the nonprofit sector of South Carolina in coauthoring a practice manual for South Carolina attorneys, South Carolina Nonprofit Corporate Practice Manual, published by the South Carolina Bar in 2007; and
Whereas, an author of many articles published in journals, magazines, and newspapers on topics pertaining to nonprofit organizations, Ms. Pearson is a member of the first statewide Nonprofit Advisory Council, formed by the Secretary of State under The Honorable Mark Hammond, and serves on the Preserving the Public Trust Blue Ribbon Task Force, a group of nonprofit professionals that led development of South Carolina's first "Guiding Principles and Best Practices" for nonprofit organizations; and
Whereas, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in recognizing the achievements and labors of such a worthy daughter of South Carolina as Glenice B. Pearson. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and thank Glenice B. Pearson for her dedicated service to South Carolina's nonprofit charitable organizations and her authorship of the official state manual for these organizations.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Glenice B. Pearson.
