A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY ON RECEIVING THE CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT FOR EXCELLENCE IN FINANCIAL REPORTING FROM THE GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICERS' ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA.

Whereas, South Carolina State University, founded in 1896, is an 1890 land-grant institution in the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, South Carolina State University, a senior comprehensive institution of approximately 4,500 students, is committed to providing affordable and accessible quality baccalaureate, master's, educational specialist, and doctorial degree programs; and

Whereas, South Carolina State University graduates are highly skilled and socially aware; and

Whereas, the Government Officers' Association of the United States and Canada has established national standards for the accounting and reporting in governmental agencies; and

Whereas, this association has established a program to recognize governmental agencies that meet high national standards of financial reporting through a national peer review process; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are delighted to have been informed that South Carolina State University will be presented the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers' Association of the United States and Canada on March 7, 2007; and

Whereas, this recognition confirms that South Carolina State University has met national standards in its accounting and reporting; and

Whereas, this prestigious and coveted recognition has only been awarded to five public senior higher education institutions in South Carolina and is rarely granted to an institution after its initial application; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to honor and recognize the South Carolina State University family for this great accomplishment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and recognize South Carolina State University on receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers' Association of the United States and Canada.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Andrew Hugine, Jr., President of South Carolina State University and Mr. Maurice Washington, Chairman of the Board of South Carolina State University.
