A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND L. TRACY CARTER, JR., PRINCIPAL OF DIXIE HIGH SCHOOL IN ABBEVILLE COUNTY FOR A TRULY DISTINGUISHED THIRTY-EIGHT YEAR CAREER AS A TEACHER, COACH, AND PRINCIPAL UPON HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO EXTEND TO HIM EVERY BEST WISH IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned with regret that one of South Carolina's most respected school administrators, L. Tracy Carter, Jr., Principal of Dixie High School in Abbeville County, will be retiring this year as principal; and

Whereas, this outstanding educator attended Latta High School and Anderson College and holds a B.A. degree in Education from Erskine College and a Masters in Education from Clemson University; and

Whereas, he began his teaching career in 1969 and first became principal in 1977 and in addition to these duties he was a successful football and basketball coach always getting the most from his players regardless of their skills as athletes; and

Whereas, Tracy Carter is widely known throughout South Carolina as a talented and innovative educator always willing to tackle a problem with new ideas and approaches and has served his profession well as a member of the Principal Evaluation Program Advisory Committee, the Exit Exam Standard Setting Committee, and the executive committee of the South Carolina High School League for sixteen years, and as President of the South Carolina High School League for two years; and

Whereas, the respect in which this fine man is held is evidenced by his selection as the William B. Hartley Administrator of the Year in 2001 and as the recipient of the Charles A. Stuart Athletic Administrator Award in 2001; and

Whereas, in addition to his professional activities, he is a community leader in Abbeville County and the upstate serving his community in many different ways as well as being a Deacon and Elder among other offices in the Associate Reform Presbyterian Church; and

Whereas, he and his lovely wife, Dorothy Jameson Carter, are blessed with two wonderful children, Shannon Burton and Tracy Carter III, and have six delightful grandchildren; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to recognize and honor Tracy Carter for his distinguished thirty-eight year career as a teacher, coach, and principal on the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly would like to recognize and commend L. Tracy Carter, Jr., Principal of Dixie High School in Abbeville County for a truly distinguished thirty-eight year career as a teacher, coach, and principal upon his retirement, and to extend to him every best wish in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to L. Tracy Carter, Jr.
