A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRACK TEAM ON CAPTURING THE 2007 AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO HONOR ITS ATHLETES AND COACHES ON AN OUTSTANDING WINNING SEASON.

Whereas, composed of talented athletes, who performed with great ability, determination, and speed, the Dorman High School Boys Track Team captured the state title at the 2007 AAAA State Championship Track Meet, marking the first ever team state track championship for Dorman; and

Whereas, under the able guidance and tutelage of Head Coach Jeff Buys and his very talented staff, the countless hours the team spent training and conditioning resulted in an undefeated regular season and winning every 2007 meet in which the team competed, including all invitational meets; and

Whereas, the Cavaliers responded to their coaches' intense workouts and long practices by pushing themselves to the limit, scoring 68 1/2 points in the championship meet, while outscoring the next closest team by 24 1/2 points as they led Dorman to the state title with the largest margin of victory by a boys team in any 2007 classification; and

Whereas, the Cavaliers marched to victory every step of the way to the State championship, winning the 2007 Spartanburg County Championship for the fifth consecutive year and capturing the 2007 Region II Championship for the fourth consecutive year, where they won twelve of seventeen events with the next best school winning only three events; the Dorman Track Team also is the only team in the State ranked by the Nike Web Nationals, which is a national online virtual track meet hosted by Nike and which has ranked Dorman fifth in the southeast region; and

Whereas, the team is comprised of a cadre of athletes who, individually and collectively, not only set five of the seventeen school records in 2007, but also included one Nike All-American athlete, the first ever for the program, and eleven All-State track team athletes; and

Whereas, Marcus Rowland helped lead the team to impressive results, while significantly contributing to his own individual performances, winning the 100 meter dash at the regional meet in 10.56 seconds, the third fastest time ever run by a junior, and winning the 200 meter dash at the state meet in 21.34 seconds, the sixth fastest time ever run by an athlete in this State, and the fastest time ever run in any meet by a junior; and

Whereas, Chris Graham, Christian Graham, Juan Thompson, and Marcus Rowland, all of whom are State Champions, took first place in the 4x400 meter relay running it in 3:17.94, which was the sixth fastest 4x400 relay ever run and the fastest since 1996; and

Whereas, the Dorman High School Boys Track Team could not have achieved such amazing success without the dedicated effort and coaching skill of Head Coach Jeff Buys and Assistant Coaches Jeremy Wyatt, Sheila Curry, Jessica Jank, Wendy Barr, and Eddie Whitt; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pride in the success and triumphs of the Dorman High School Track Team and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Dorman High School Boys Track Team on capturing the 2007 AAAA State Championship and honor its athletes and coaches on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Head Coach Jeff Buys and the Dorman High School Boys Track Team.
