A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO PROVIDE THAT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY SHALL STAND ADJOURNED FROM JUNE 29, 2007, UNTIL JANUARY 14, 2008, AND MAY BE CALLED INTO JOINT ASSEMBLY BY MUTUAL CONSENT OF THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING AN ELECTION TO FILL A VACANCY IN THE EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE CONFIRMATION OF APPOINTMENTS BY THE SENATE.

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

Pursuant to the provisions of Article III of the Constitution of this State and Section 2-1-180 of the 1976 Code, and subsection (A)(4) of S. 787 of 2007, that notwithstanding subsection (C) of S. 787, at 5:00 p.m. on June 29, 2007, the General Assembly shall not stand adjourned sine die, but rather, the Senate and the House of Representatives shall stand adjourned until no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008, at which time unless adjourned sine die earlier pursuant to this resolution, the General Assembly shall stand adjourned sine die. Between June 29, 2007 and January 14, 2008, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, by mutual consent, may call the houses into statewide session no sooner than ten days after a vacancy occurs in the executive department to conduct a joint assembly to fill the vacancy in the executive department pursuant to Section 1-1-120 of the 1976 Code. On the day that the houses are to meet in joint assembly pursuant to this resolution, the Senate shall meet in statewide session at a time set by the President Pro Tempore prior to the joint assembly for the sole purpose of confirmation of appointments. Upon adjournment of any joint assembly authorized by this resolution, the General Assembly shall stand adjourned sine die.
