A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE BLUFFTON HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR A WINNING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE 2007 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to hear that the fledgling Bluffton High volleyball team in its fourth season claimed forty-five wins and only five losses and garnered the state championship title on November 3, 2007; and

Whereas, in five playoff matches on the way to the championship game, the Lady Bobcats lost only two games, but until the second game of the championship match, few aside from the team players and the coaches believed that the title was a reality for Bluffton; and

Whereas, after the Pickens Blue Flame led in the first game 23-10, their fourth consecutive state title seemed sure until Bluffton battled back making a seven-to-one run; and

Whereas, after Bluffton lost that first game 25-17 to the triple-tiaraed Pickens High School who were set on defending their title, the Blue Flame repeat victory seemed inevitable, yet the Lady Bobcats rallied to win their first title in only four games; and

Whereas, the Lady Bobcats made more than the necessary digs, kills, blocks, and outside hits to overwhelm the opponent and topple the dynasty of which the Pickens' specially printed shirts boasted; and

Whereas, senior Heaven Harvey closed her stellar high school career with a game-high twelve kills in the championship game and added Region VII Player of the Year to her other All-Region and All-State awards; and

Whereas, seniors Kayla Spaulding, who also won state and regional honors, Nicole Schultz, Marisa Johnson, and Hannah Cappelmann have anchored the team during its infancy; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires speed, agility, and teamwork, the Bluffton volleyball team has worked relentlessly for four years under the athletic leadership and experience of Head Coach Al Stern and Assistant Coach Herb Spaulding to produce a championship team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Bluffton High School girls volleyball team for a winning season, and congratulate the players and coaches for capturing the 2007 Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bluffton High School Principal Robert Anderson and Coach Al Stern.
