A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HOLLY HILL ACADEMY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM, OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY, FOR A WINNING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE 2007 SCISA CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to hear that the Holly Hill Academy volleyball team claimed its first ever state championship title on October 23, 2007, with an outstanding season of twenty-one wins and only one loss; and

Whereas, the Lady Raiders delighted their admirers and stunned their rivals in a heart-pounding, five-game victory over Spartanburg Christian Academy; and

Whereas, after winning a close first game and losing the next two, the red and blue Raiders rallied their forces and delivered two decisive defeats to Spartanburg in the fourth and fifth games; and

Whereas, the Lady Raiders made the necessary digs, kills, blocks, and outside hits to overwhelm the opponent and bring home the gold for the first time in the academy's history; and

Whereas, Carlie Franklin, Victoria Way, Wehme Carolyn Hutto, and Mary Auburn Shuler garnered numerous region and state honors, and Meredith Jenkins, among her other distinctions, was named Region Player of the Year and High School Sports Report SCISA AA Player of the Year; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires speed, agility, and teamwork, Head Coach Ron Nestar, Jr., named Coach of the Year by the High School Sports Report, has used his athletic skill and experience to forge a championship team; and

Whereas, the Raider volleyball team from Holly Hill has exerted tireless effort in rigorous practices to achieve a winning season and gain the championship title, which has brought pride and distinction to the school and the community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Holly Hill Academy girls volleyball team, of Orangeburg County, for a winning season, and congratulate the players and coaches for capturing the 2007 SCISA Class AA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Academy Principal John Gasque and Coach Ron Nestar, Jr.
