Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mr. Julius Lamar Copeland, of Hopkins, will celebrate his eightieth birthday on June 4, 2008; and

Whereas, Julius Copeland was born on June 4, 1928, in Dawson, Georgia, when the twentieth century was still in its youth, and he has been witness to nearly all the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, the son of Benton and Vera Copeland, he spent his early years in Dawson, leaving his hometown for service with the United States Army in 1951. While stationed at Fort Jackson, he met his future wife, Rosalee; and

Whereas, in 1953, he wed his beloved Rosalee, the Lord blessing their union with eight children, Juanita, Andrew, Debra, Telisa, Tamala, Julius, Vera, Vanessa, and Michael, as well as sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, deciding to make Hopkins his home, Julius settled his family there and retired from the Army in 1971 with awards attesting to his dedicated service. He also was honored with the Vietnam Service and Campaign Medal award. Julius completed his career at Westinghouse, from which he retired in 1990; and

Whereas, this loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather enjoys indulging his hobbies, farming and gardening. A respected community leader, he serves his God as a deacon at Veighle Chapel Baptist Church and is a member of the American Legion and the Disabled Veterans of America; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly gentlemanly South Carolinian at the celebration of his eightieth birthday and joins with his family and friends in congratulating him on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
