VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL LANCE CORPORAL BOB BERES, OF DORCHESTER COUNTY, UPON BEING NAMED THE STATE'S 2007 TROOPER OF THE YEAR, AND TO EXPRESS DEEP GRATITUDE FOR HIS MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF HIS COMMUNITY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to note the exceptional work of Lance Corporal Bob Beres of the South Carolina Highway Patrol and commend him for his selection as the 2007 Trooper of the Year; and
Whereas, born in a refugee camp in Baden, Austria, in the early 1970s after his parents escaped from the hunger and poverty that had overrun Hungary, he emigrated to America with his family when he was two years old; and
Whereas, before joining the Highway Patrol, he served in the United States Navy; and
Whereas, a thirteen-year veteran of the Highway Patrol, Lance Corporal Beres was assigned as a community-relations officer for Troop 6 a year ago and has been serving in the same post for Troop 7 while that officer is serving in Iraq; and
Whereas, his nomination was due partly to his innovative approaches in educating citizens, specifically teen drivers, about safety issues, which include his visits to schools to eat lunch with students or to read to them; and
Whereas, his family's early struggles determined his approach to difficulties and to the suffering of others, and his generosity and compassion in his community are marks of his character; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Bob Beres has been named 2007 Trooper of the Year and are grateful for his outstanding work on behalf of the citizens of this State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Bob Beres, of Dorchester County, upon being named the state's 2007 Trooper of the Year, and to express deep gratitude for his meritorious service to the citizens of his community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lance Corporal Bob Beres.
