A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE SUMMERVILLE BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2006-2007 VARSITY BOYS REGION 8-4A LOWER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, COMMENDING THEM ON A SEASON FULL OF DEDICATION AND TEAMWORK, AND WISHING THEM MUCH SUCCESS IN FUTURE SEASONS.

Whereas, Summerville High School's Varsity boys' basketball team won the Region 8-4A Lower State Championship; and

Whereas, the 2007 appearance of the Summerville Green Wave in the Lower State Championship was the first in over thirty years. The Green Wave previously reached the Lower State Championship as a 3A school in 1970, and a Class B school in 1955; and

Whereas, the February 24th defeat of Hartsville, was a crowd-pleasing, up-to-the-last-minute offensive shootout. Through dedication, teamwork, and sheer desire, Summerville was able to pull past their opponents in a 71-63 victory; and

Whereas, their latest victory capped a season full of dedication, practice, and teamwork. Their camaraderie, both on and off the court, is aided by eleven of the sixteen players also starting on the Summerville football team together. The Green Wave posted an impressive 2006-07 record of 22-5; and

Whereas, the team is comprised of Jarin Bouie, Taylor Campbell, Patrick Freeman, Matt Galbreath, A.J. Green, Bruce Haynes, Aaron Jiles, Joseph Jiles, Branden Millhouse, Marcus Morris, Mario Pendarvis, Ronald Pittman, Dwayne Simmons, Harrison Thompson, Kyle Tyner, Michael Varner, and Kelvis Whitley. The team was lead to victory under the helm of Head Coach Tee Newman, Assistant Coaches Randall Tucker, Tillman Millhouse, III, and Louis Mulkey, student managaer Demetrious Rogers, trainer Kassie English, and student trainer Rikki Luck; and

Whereas, basketball requires individual strength, agility, and skill, of which the 2006-07 team was filled. The Green Wave was able to win its first 4A Lower State Championship in more than thirty years because of their dedicated teamwork and unwavering commitment to solidarity. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Summerville Boys' Basketball team on winning the Lower State Championship, commend them on a season full of teamwork and dedication, and wish them much success in future seasons.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Tee Newman, and the entire team and staff of the Summerville Boys' Basketball Green Wave.
