A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR DR. SHARON L. BUDDIN, PRINCIPAL OF BLYTHEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, FOR HER THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS OF SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Dr. Sharon L. Buddin, of Richland County, for thirty-eight years has filled the posts of both teacher and principal with dignity and excellence; and

Whereas, her honesty, intelligence, and commitment to high standards in education have drawn admiration from those with whom she has worked, as well as from the people of South Carolina at large; and

Whereas, in preparation for her career as an educator, Dr. Sharon Buddin earned a Bachelor of Arts in History at Winthrop College, a master's degree in secondary education at the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. in education administration, also at USC; and

Whereas, she began her career as a social studies teacher for Gibbes Junior High School, Webber Middle School, and Dent Junior High School, moving into administration as an administrative assistant for Dent and later as an assistant principal for Spring Valley High School; and

Whereas, during Dr. Buddin's tenure as Principal of Ridge View High School, she witnessed her school win numerous awards, such as being selected a Palmetto's Finest, Palmetto Gold, and Red Carpet School, as well as a School of Promise, and she has led her new school, Blythewood High, into the future with a sure and steady hand; and

Whereas, in addition to fostering achievements by her schools during her administration, this veteran of public school education has herself received many honors, among them being named the Metlife/NASSP National Secondary Principal of the Year, the SCASA South Carolina Principal of the Year, the South Carolina Art Education Association's Outstanding Administrator and Supervisor of the Year, and the William B. Harley Administrator of the Year; and

Whereas, also dedicated to worthy service beyond the schoolhouse, Dr. Sharon Buddin received the Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction Award for her many years of service to that organization, and she is a laureate of the South Carolina Order of the Palmetto, awarded by Governor James Hodges in 2002, this honor being the highest the State of South Carolina can bestow on one of its citizens; and

Whereas, Dr. Buddin, taking her responsibilities with the seriousness they deserve, has labored diligently as an educator for the educational welfare of South Carolina's children and has well repaid the trust placed in her by this great State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor Dr. Sharon L. Buddin, Principal of Blythewood High School, for her thirty-eight years as an educator upon the occasion of her retirement, and extend best wishes for much success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Sharon L. Buddin.
