A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING DANNY R. SHARPE UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES OF PICKENS COUNTY AND THANKING HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE FIELD OF MENTAL HEALTH IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Danny R. Sharpe has served as the Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County since December 1976; and

Whereas, Mr. Sharpe served as the Coordinator for the Alcohol Safety Action Program for the Pickens County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse from 1973 to 1976; and

Whereas, Mr. Sharpe received a Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Management from Southern Wesleyan University in 1992 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Central Wesleyan College in 1973; and

Whereas, in 1998 the Behavioral Health Services Board of Directors endowed the Dan Sharpe Scholarship Award to a high school senior in recognition of twenty-five years of service; and

Whereas, Mr. Sharpe has served on numerous professional boards, including the Behavioral Health Services Association of South Carolina, the Public Policy Legislative Committee, the South Carolina Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Authorities, the South Carolina Council for the Prevention of Impaired Driving, the ADSAP Advisory Committee of the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Illness Committee; and

Whereas, Mr. Sharpe has been an active member of his community by serving as a board member for the Salvation Army, the YMCA, the United Way, the American Red Cross, the Pickens County Health Partners, the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce, the Pickens Sertoma Club, and the Pickens County School District Board of Trustees. Mr. Sharpe is also an active leader and member of the East Pickens Baptist Church; and

Whereas, Mr. Sharpe has been awarded Recognition of Service from the Pickens Sertoma Club, Recognition of Service from the Pickens Chamber of Commerce, the Bernice Holder Award from the Pickens County Red Cross, Certificate of Appreciation from the Pickens County YMCA, and Certificate of Appreciation from the Leadership Institute of the Southeastern Atlantic Technology Transfer Center at the Moorehouse School of Medicine; and

Whereas, Mr. Sharpe will retire as Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County on June 29, 2007; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to extend their sincerest thanks to Danny R. Sharpe for his years of dedicated service to the citizens of South Carolina and Pickens County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Danny R. Sharpe upon the occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County and thank him for his many years of service to the field of mental health in the state of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Danny R. Sharpe.
