A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO PROVIDE THAT UNTIL JULY 1, 2011, THE BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS 2 AND 17 MAY NOT ENTER INTO CONTRACTS TO CONSTRUCT BUILDINGS OR OTHERWISE IMPROVE REAL PROPERTY AT A COST OF FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS OR MORE WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE SUMTER CONSOLIDATION TRANSITION COMMITTEE.

Amend Title To Conform

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Notwithstanding any other provision of law, beginning upon the effective date of this section and until July 1, 2011, the boards of trustees of Sumter County School Districts 2 and 17 may not enter into contracts to construct buildings or otherwise improve real property at a cost of five hundred thousand dollars or more without the approval of the Sumter Consolidation Transition Committee established in Section 8 of an act of 2008 bearing ratification number 180.

Multiple contracts on the same project which are individually less than five hundred thousand dollars but which collectively total or will total over five hundred thousand dollars also require Transition Committee approval as provided in this section.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
