A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 930 OF 1970, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR KERSHAW COUNTY, SO AS TO PROVIDE COMPENSATION FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD IN THE AMOUNT OF TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR THEIR ATTENDANCE AT EACH MEETING AND TO ALLOW THE SCHOOL BOARD TO ADJUST ITS SALARY AND EXPENSES, BY RESOLUTION, TO BE EFFECTIVE ON THE COMMENCEMENT DATE OF THE TERMS OF TWO OR MORE MEMBERS ELECTED AT THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION FOLLOWING THE ADOPTION OF THE RESOLUTION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 5 of Act 930 of 1970, as last amended by Act 600 of 1984, is further amended to read:

"Section 5.    The Kershaw County Board of Trustees shall meet on the second Tuesday of each year at ten a.m. and elect one of its members chairman for a term of one year and another as vice chairman for a like period.

The board shall hold regular meetings at least once each month, and any special meeting it considers necessary; all meetings are open to the public unless the board by a majority vote considers it necessary to meet in executive session for such meeting or any part thereof. Six members shall constitute a quorum at all meetings.

Members of the board shall receive seventy-five dollars for their attendance at each meeting plus mileage as provided by law for members of boards, commissions, and committees for travel expenses to be paid from the general Kershaw County school funds. The chairman shall receive fifty dollars and each member of the board twenty-five dollars a month for expenses. The board, by resolution, may adjust the amount of the annual salary and expenses as provided pursuant to this section; however, any adjustments adopted by the board must not become effective until the commencement date of the terms of two or more members elected at the next general election following the adoption of the resolution, at which time it is effective for all members whether or not they were elected in that election."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
