To whom was referred a Bill (H. 4150) to amend Act 340 of 1967, relating to the Charleston County School District and the governing body of the district, so as to revise the manner in which principals, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 340 OF 1967, RELATING TO THE CHARLESTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE DISTRICT, SO AS TO REVISE THE MANNER IN WHICH PRINCIPALS OF SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT SHALL BE APPOINTED AND THE MANNER IN WHICH TEACHERS AND OTHER PERSONNEL SHALL BE EMPLOYED AND ASSIGNED, AND TO DELETE CERTAIN PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE EMPLOYMENT AND TRANSFER OF TEACHERS AND OTHER EMPLOYEES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Item (16) of Section 5 of Act 340 of 1967, as added by Act 721 of 1978, is amended to read:

"(16)    Appoint the principals of all schools in Charleston County from among three qualified persons recommended by the trustees of the constituent school district in which the particular school is located.;"

SECTION    2.    Section 5 of Act 340 of 1967 is amended by adding a new item (17) to read:

"(17)    Employ and assign the teachers and other personnel necessary for the efficient operation of the schools."

SECTION    3.    Sections 6 and 8 of Act 340 of 1967 are deleted.

SECTION    4.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
