A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 30-4-70(C) OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO A CLOSED MEETING OF A PUBLIC BODY, TO PROVIDE THAT NO CHANCE MEETING, SOCIAL MEETING, OR ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION MAY BE USED IN CIRCUMVENTION OF THE SPIRIT OF THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT TO DISCUSS OR ACT UPON A MATTER WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE PUBLIC BODY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 30-4-70(c) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"(c)    No chance meeting, social meeting, or electronic communication may be used in circumvention of the spirit of requirements of this chapter to act upon or discuss a matter over which the public body has supervision, control, jurisdiction, or advisory power."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
