A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. LANCE C. RADFORD OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON BEING NAMED 2010 SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AND OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. Lance C. Radford, principal of Wade Hampton High School, has been named the South Carolina Association of School Administrators' 2010 High School Principal of the Year; and

Whereas, a veteran educator of twenty years' experience, Mr. Radford has received various honors for his leadership during his five years at Wade Hampton High School, including the State Athletic Administrators AAA Principal of the Year award and Greenville County Schools Principal of the Year award for 2009; and

Whereas, under his leadership, Wade Hampton High School has ranked at the top of the school system in academic achievement and has been recognized multiple times by Newsweek as one of the top high schools in the nation; and

Whereas, the school's graduation rate rose from 73.1 percent in 2005-06 to 85.6 percent two years later, while the percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced on the exit exam rose from 64 percent to 78 percent in English language arts and from 49.1 percent to 72.3 percent in math; and

Whereas, the school also has experienced similar extraordinary success in raising its SAT and ACT scores and the passing rate for its Advanced Placement tests, as well as in increasing the number of students taking the ACT test and Advanced Placement tests; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are proud to honor Mr. Lance C. Radford for being named 2010 South Carolina High School Principal of the Year and to recognize him for his many outstanding contributions to the field of education in South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Lance C. Radford of Greenville County on being named 2010 South Carolina High School Principal of the Year, commend him for his many years of dedicated service and outstanding contributions to education in South Carolina, and wish him much success in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Lance C. Radford.
