VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF SARAH RISHER WATFORD MOORE OF COLLETON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND TO HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the passing of a daughter our great State, Sarah Risher Watford Moore, on March 12, 2010; and
Whereas, born in Colleton County on February 22, 1918, Sarah Risher was the daughter of Colonel James F. Risher and Nelle McTeer Risher; and
Whereas, a graduate of Columbia College in 1939, she was president of her senior class and was listed in "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities," and she remained active in Columbia College affairs and served as permanent president of the class of 1939; and
Whereas, she and her late husband Edward Coker Watford were married for fifty-two years before his death, and together they reared two fine children, Mary Nelle Gore and Edward Coker Watford, Jr., who blessed them with four wonderful grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, a resident of Pageland for over fifty years, Sarah Watford was a devoted member of Pageland United Methodist Church, serving as organist, choir director, and teacher of the young adults' class for many years, which was named in her honor on her eightieth birthday; and
Whereas, she served in many roles of leadership in the local and district levels of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Congenial Study Group, Friends of the Library, and the Pageland Garden Club; and
Whereas, dedicated to her community, Sarah Watford served on the steering committee of the Pageland Watermelon Festival for many years; and
Whereas, she taught music in the Chesterfield County public schools for twenty-four years and gave private lessons to students in organ and piano; and
Whereas, she was honored as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honor society of educators promoting professional and personal growth in its members and excellence in education, and served as president of the local chapter; and
Whereas, in 1998, she married her loving husband Dr. George E. H. Moore of Walterboro, a former friend from her youth in Colleton County; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are grateful for the lasting legacy of this gracious lady and native daughter of South Carolina, who loved her God, her family, and her friends and whose life has enriched so many in her community and State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their sincere sorrow upon the death of Sarah Risher Watford Moore of Colleton County, and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and to her many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sarah Risher Watford Moore.
