TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 49 IN YORK COUNTY FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS 274 AND 557 TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 55 "CORPORAL KEVIN CUSACK MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS PORTION OF HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "CORPORAL KEVIN CUSACK MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
Whereas, South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal Kevin Cusack was born on March 13, 1965 in Florence County. He was the son of the late James Richard Cusack and Dean Miles Cusack Pattillo; and
Whereas, on March 27, 2010, Corporal Cusack tragically lost his life in a single vehicle accident while on patrol in Lancaster County; and
Whereas, a twenty-one year veteran of the Highway Patrol, Corporal Cusack was known for his easy-going manner and respect for his fellow state troopers; and
Whereas, he leaves to morn his loss his mother, stepfather, and three children, and a host of other relatives and friends; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pay tribute to this fallen law enforcement officer by naming a portion of South Carolina Highway 49 in his honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly request the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 49 in York County from its intersection with South Carolina Highways 274 and 557 to its intersection with South Carolina Highway 55 "Corporal Kevin Cusack Memorial Highway" and erect appropriate markers of signs along this portion of highway that contain the words "Corporal Kevin Cusack Memorial Highway".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
