A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR JERRY BROWN, SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, LICENSING AND REGULATION INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGER, UPON HIS RETIREMENT, TO THANK HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PALMETTO STATE, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH FULFILLMENT AND SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, having served his State with excellence for many years, Jerry Brown is retiring on June 30, 2011, from his post as South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) information technology manager, a position he has held with distinction since 1995, working under four different directors; and

Whereas, under Jerry Brown's leadership, LLR consolidated the IT needs and operations of forty-two formerly independent agencies, bringing a new level of efficiency and accountability to state government; and

Whereas, during his tenure at LLR, Mr. Brown directed the agency's groundbreaking imaging program, which placed millions of documents in cyberspace and reduced manpower and space costs for the agency, saving millions of dollars over the years; and

Whereas, in addition, Jerry Brown was responsible for moving the agency from obsolete mainframe technology to a PC-based system, implementing online renewals, and developing effective online communications for LLR's many programs; and

Whereas, Mr. Brown's reputation for excellence is known far and wide, and he has not gone unappreciated. For example, during the administration of Governor David Beasley, discussions at Cabinet meetings frequently referred to Jerry Brown as far and away the best information technology manager in state government; and

Whereas, an exemplary state employee, Jerry Brown's wit, wisdom, and personality (including writing his "Jabberwocky" column in the LLR Times for several years) have endeared him to his coworkers for both the quality of his work and his ability to lighten up challenging situations; and

Whereas, outside the office, Jerry Brown is honored as a devoted family man whose priorities have always been well centered in his home and community; and

Whereas, having earned the respect of all those who have had the privilege of working with him, Jerry Brown will be remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues and legislative friends for years to come. The House of Representatives trusts he will find great pleasure in the more relaxing pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Jerry Brown, South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation information technology manager, upon his retirement, thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the Palmetto State, and wish him much fulfillment and success in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Jerry Brown.
