A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR EDWARD JONES OF CHARLESTON COUNTY, AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR MANY YEARS OF MEANINGFUL AND FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE EASTSIDE COMMUNITY OF THE CITY OF CHARLESTON.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to acknowledge the significant benefit that the volunteer work of Edward Jones has given to the Eastside community in Charleston; and

Whereas, born on East Bay Street in Charleston, he attended C. A. Brown High School; and

Whereas, the father of five fine children and a former foster parent, he previously served as the Parent-Teacher School Association president for Courtney Middle School and vice president for Wilma J. Fraser Elementary School; and

Whereas, Edward Jones served as the president of the Eastside Neighborhood Council and was the founder of both Concerned Citizens of Peninsula Lowcountry and Philip Simmons Summer Basketball League, which seek to inspire young people to become responsible citizens; and

Whereas, for more than thirty-eight years, he has coached for the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Charleston, receiving special recognition awards in 1996 and 2000; and

Whereas, he was recognized as volunteer of the year by the South Carolina State Board of Education and by Charleston City Police Weed and Seed Program and nominated for the Martin Luther King Jr. Picture Award; and

Whereas, a member of Friendship Missionary Church, he is a self-employed general contractor who has also spent his life building into the lives of young people so that they will be able to construct a solid future; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the nearly forty years of volunteer service that Edward Jones has given to the youth of the Eastside community and for the example he has set that will enable them to serve their communities throughout their lives. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Edward Jones of Charleston County, and commend him for many years of meaningful and faithful service to the Eastside community of the City of Charleston.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Edward Jones.
