VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR WILBUR LEE JEFFCOAT OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS LIFE OF DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE PALMETTO STATE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the lifelong devotion of Wilbur Lee Jeffcoat to public service in our State; and
Whereas, Mr. Jeffcoat retired as the manager of government and community affairs with the Overnite Transportation Company; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Annie, he reared a fine son, Christopher Lykes, Sr., who has blessed them with two adoring grandchildren: Christopher Lykes, Jr., and Steven Lykes; and
Whereas, a devoted member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church of Swansea, he served as a church trustee and as the lead Sunday school teacher; and
Whereas, he served his community on the Lexington Development Corporation, the Central Midlands Planning Council, and the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Board; and
Whereas, from the mid 1970s through the 1990s, he served as the lead fundraiser for South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus, and he served as the 1st Vice Chair of South Carolina Democratic Party; and
Whereas, he lent his formidable experience in service on the South Carolina Board of Consumer Affairs and on the Occupational Safety and Health Review Board; and
Whereas, with tireless and enthusiastic devotion, Mr. Jeffcoat served on the board of Palmetto Senior Care and on the Lexington Hospital Board; and
Whereas, he earned the prestigious standing of a thirty-third degree Master Mason and proudly holds a life membership in the NAACP; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the legacy of service and commitment that Wilbur Lee Jeffcoat has established and for the standard of excellence he has set in our State for others to emulate. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Wilbur Lee Jeffcoat of Lexington County, and commend him for his life of dedication and service to the citizens of the Palmetto State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Wilbur Lee Jeffcoat.
