A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR AIMEE COLLINS MATHIS OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AND TO WISH HER WELL AS SHE CONTINUES TO SERVE THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors individuals who freely give of their time and resources for the good of others; and

Whereas, Aimee Collins Mathis of Edgefield County has contributed valuable community service to the citizens of the Palmetto State and is thereby worthy of praise; and

Whereas, a native of Edgefield County, Aimee Collins Mathis was the first of six children born to Laurence and Amanda Collins and was raised in a Christian home; and

Whereas, the young Aimee graduated from Bettis Academy Junior College, to which her grandfather gave a very generous donation in 1932, making the school even more special to her and her family. Aimee also attended college for two years in Greensboro, North Carolina, with home economics as her major; and

Whereas, having retired from retail in 1989, she moved from Washington, D.C., back to Edgefield in 1990. Since then, she has served her community and State in a number of capacities, especially in projects related to the historic Bettis Academy. She worked on the Bettis Academy campus and was director of Bettis Academy Senior Citizens for five years, executive administrator of Bettis Academy Congress, and secretary of Alexander Bettis Library. She has been a Christian education advisor and has served in the foster grandparent program; and

Whereas, in addition, Aimee Collins Mathis worked with the Reverend Dr. and Mrs. Alexander Pope for eight years and has similarly served under other pastors. She has been a teacher of new members at her church and worked in its outreach ministry. As a woman of faith, she is presently a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; and

Whereas, she has worked with South Carolina state Representative William Clyburn for ten years; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Aimee Collins Mathis who use their talents and resources to serve others. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Aimee Collins Mathis of Edgefield County for her outstanding community service and wish her well as she continues to serve the people of South Carolina.
