A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY'S AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S SUPPORT FOR ORGAN, EYE, AND TISSUE DONATION AND TO DESIGNATE THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2013, AS "ORGAN DONOR REGISTRATION DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, giving life through organ, eye, and tissue donation to someone facing death or living with a disability or blindness is the ultimate act of generosity and kindness that we as South Carolina citizens can perform; and

Whereas, more than 117,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant; and

Whereas, more than eighteen people die every day while waiting for an organ transplant; and

Whereas, one organ donor can save up to eight lives; and

Whereas, people of all ages, races, and ethnicities can save and enhance lives by donating their organs, eyes, and tissues. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina express support for organ, eye, and tissue donation and designate Thursday, April 4, 2013, as "Organ Donor Registration Day" in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Donate Life South Carolina.
