A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. JAMES C. "JIMMIE" WILLIAMSON ON THE OCCASION OF HIS SELECTION BY THE STATE BOARD FOR TECHNICAL AND COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION AS TWELFTH PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA TECHNICAL COLLEGE SYSTEM AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN HIS NEW POSITION.

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to learn that Dr. James C. "Jimmie" Williamson became the twelfth president and executive director of the South Carolina Technical College System on March 17, 2014; and

Whereas, a native of the Palmetto State, Dr. Williamson earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Winthrop University and his doctorate from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Dr. Williamson brings with him twenty-eight years of experience in higher-education administration coupled with eight years of private-sector business experience; and

Whereas, Dr. Williamson's passion for building South Carolina's workforce has long been demonstrated by his commitment to making quality higher education and advanced training both affordable and accessible for the people of South Carolina; and

Whereas, he is committed to the South Carolina Technical College System's provision of the education and training needed for high-demand jobs in South Carolina; and

Whereas, since assuming his role as president of the South Carolina Technical College System, Dr. Williamson has dedicated himself to promoting collaboration and cooperation among the colleges and between economic-development and workforce-development partners and the higher-education community and secondary-education partners to enhance the employability of South Carolinians, an enhancement that will, in turn, create a better quality of life for the citizens of this great State; and

Whereas, active in the greater community, Dr. Williamson serves on a number of boards and has been a Rotarian since 1996. He is the incoming governor of Rotary District 7770; and

Whereas, Dr. Jimmie Williamson and his wife, Kim Williamson, make their home in Cheraw with their younger son, Jake. Their older son, Jordan, lives and works in North Charleston; and

Whereas, cognizant of his spirit of excellence and commitment to the people of South Carolina, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in congratulating Dr. Williamson on his appointment as twelfth president and executive director of the South Carolina Technical College System. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. James C. "Jimmie" Williamson on the occasion of his selection by the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education as twelfth president and executive director of the South Carolina Technical College System and wish him much success in his new position.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Dr. James C. Williamson.
