INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 3656) to request the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the junction of South Carolina Highway 9 and Highway S-26-410 in Horry County "Deputy Sheriff Timothy Causey, etc., respectfully

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERSECTION LOCATED AT THE JUNCTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 9 AND HIGHWAY S-26-410 IN HORRY COUNTY "DEPUTY SHERIFF TIMOTHY CAUSEY MEMORIAL INTERSECTION" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS INTERSECTION CONTAINING THIS DESIGNATION.

Whereas, born in San Francisco, California, on November 18, 1962, Horry County Deputy Sheriff Timothy Causey was the son of Mary Lopez Causey and Corley Causey, Jr., and died on May 19, 2013; and

Whereas, he married his beloved wife, Donna Strickland Causey, on December 20, 1986, and together they reared two loving daughters, Sommer Brooke and Taylor Blaire Causey; and

Whereas, after serving the United States Marine Corps with distinction from 1985 to 1989, he served with the Mullins Police Department from 1989 to 1993; and

Whereas, from 1993 to 2011, he served the Horry County Police Department and began serving the Horry County Sheriff's Office in 2011; and

Whereas, a twenty-five-year law enforcement veteran, he had only been with the warrant division of the Horry County Sheriff's Office for two years when he assisted with securing the scene for three nights during the devastating fire at the Windsor Green community in Carolina Forest in March of 2013; and

Whereas, Deputy Sheriff Causey died as a result of smoke inhalation and acute respiratory failure he suffered after responding to the fire; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to recognize the heroism and bravery of this son of South Carolina by naming an intersection along South Carolina Highway 9 in Horry County in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That members of the General Assembly request the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the junction of South Carolina Highway 9 and Highway S-26-410 in Horry County "Deputy Sheriff Timothy Causey Memorial Intersection" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this intersection containing this designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Department of Transportation.
