A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE LUCILLE MITCHELL TOMPKINS ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Lucille Mitchell Tompkins will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on March 27, 2019; and

Whereas, born the middle child of three to John and Kate Mitchell, the young Lucille came into this world on March 27, 1919, when the twentieth century was still in its youth, and she has been witness to nearly all the incredible changes and developments that have come to this nation from that time into the second decade of the twenty-first century; and

Whereas, a woman of faith, Lucille joined the United House of Prayer at an early age and remained there, serving as secretary, until joining Macedonia Baptist Church in 1987. At Macedonia, she was a member of the Missionary Society. In 2012, she united with New Faith Tabernacle Ministries, where she is the Mother of the Church; and

Whereas, in the fullness of time, Lucille wed Roosevelt Tompkins (now deceased), the Lord blessing their union with two children, Leroy and Annette, who have given their parents the joy of fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, twenty-six great-great-grandchildren, and five great-great-great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, for fifty years, Lucille served as a domestic worker for the family of Helen and William Burnette. She retired at the amazing age of ninety-one; and

Whereas, in the community, she was one of the organizers of Westside Community Club #1 and is the only surviving charter member. She served as vice president for a number of years; and

Whereas, to honor her at this very special time in her life, family and friends will join with Lucille Tompkins to celebrate her centennial birthday on Saturday, March 30, 2019; and

Whereas, the House is proud to honor this truly lovely lady at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Lucille Mitchell Tompkins on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lucille Mitchell Tompkins.
