VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE SUSAN BERRY FOR HER FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Susan Berry for completing her fiftieth year in state government service on January 27, 2019; and
Whereas, Ms. Berry began her career in state government with the South Carolina Department of Highways and Public Transportation Traffic Engineering section in 1969 as a records clerk, coding collision reports for safety analysis; and
Whereas, Ms. Berry was an inaugural member of the Office of Highway Safety, which was created in July 1969 to enhance the traffic safety of the State's highways through traffic collision reporting analysis and study. She has been serving in this area of expertise throughout her fifty years of employment with the State; and
Whereas, during her career in traffic safety, Ms. Berry has served in many different capacities, advancing through the system to supervisory roles, specialized records analyst, and data quality positions; and
Whereas, notably, she became one of the nation's first Fatality Analysis Reporting System analysts, gathering and maintaining traffic collision data involving fatal collisions, which has become a powerful resource for traffic safety research state-wide, nationally, and globally in the development of traffic safety programs for speed regulation, alcohol and drugged driving enforcement strategies, and commercial motor vehicle safety programs; and
Whereas, among her many contributions to traffic safety, Ms. Berry was instrumental in developing the current Traffic Collision Report form that is used by all law enforcement within the State for collision incident reporting; and
Whereas, Ms. Berry also served as part of the groundbreaking expansion of electronic collision reporting in South Carolina, the South Carolina Collision and Ticket Tracking System, which now serves as the backbone of traffic records data collection for collisions, traffic citations, and public contact or warnings within the State; and
Whereas, she is currently an employee of the South Carolina Department of Safety; and
Whereas, Ms. Berry has been a vital part of traffic safety, and her efforts have led to the saving of countless lives on our State's roadways; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the dedication and commitment that Susan Berry has shown in serving the State and the people of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor and recognize Susan Berry for her fifty years of service to the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Susan Berry.
