A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR FRANCES KING HILTON FOR HER MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE C. E. MURRAY COMMUNITY AND TO THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Frances King Hilton; and

Whereas, a native of Manning, Mrs. Hilton was born to parents Simuel and Ada King. Mrs. Hilton graduated from Manning High School. She received her bachelor's and her master's degrees from South Carolina State College, and she was a certified AP Biology instructor; and

Whereas, Mrs. Hilton taught science at C. E. Murray High School, and she was always passionate about teaching biology to her students; and

Whereas, she was married to the late Charles Hilton and is the proud parent of three wonderful children, Karen, Neilson, and Kenya Hilton; and

Whereas, over the years, Mrs. Hilton has served her community in a number of roles, including serving as co-secretary of the State National Honor Society and serving as President of the South Carolina Biology Teachers Association from 1996-1997; and

Whereas, Mrs. Hilton is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, the William Penn Foundation, and the National Retired Teachers Association; and

Whereas, Mrs. Hilton was inspired to teach by her mother who taught her through the fifth grade, her biology teacher Ms. Webb, her mathematics teacher Ms. Curtain, as well as Mr. William Penn Harrison and Mr. Kennedy; and

Whereas, Mrs. Hilton cherished her experience at C .E. Murray under the visionary leadership of Dr. Charles Edward Murray and the principals to follow Mr. Wallace Bartelle and Mr. Glen Alvert Kennedy; and

Whereas, in recognition of Mrs. Hilton's dedicated service to her students and her community, C. E. Murray High School will re-name its science wing in her honor; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Frances King Hilton has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Frances King Hilton for her many contributions to the C. E. Murray community and to the people and the state of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Frances King Hilton.
