A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS PROFOUND SORROW UPON THE PASSING OF MARY B. WHITE AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mary B. White on February 26, 2021; and

Whereas, a native of Kingstree, Mrs. White, affectionately known as "Aunt Boodah, Grandma Boo or Ms. Hunt," was born on March 23, 1932 to the late Mr. William Snipe Barr and Mrs. Annie Bell Barr. She attended Tomlinson High School in Kingstree; and

Whereas, Mrs. White began her career as the personal chef and domestic housekeeper for Mr. Cecil Hanna and family, and she also worked as a laundry attendant at Royal Dry Cleaners. She was later employed with Warsaw Plant, later called Oxford Manufacturing; and she retired after twenty-nine years of service; and

Whereas, a devout Christian, Mrs. White accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She joined Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church, now known as, Mt. Carmel Universal Methodist Episcopal Church in Hemingway; and

Whereas, an active member of her church, Mrs. White served on the Stewardess Board, the Church's Executive Board, the Pastor's Aid Committee, the Prayer Band, the Willing Workers Committee and the Senior Missionary Society. She also served as Class Leader Number 1 and Mt. Carmel's Church Mother; and

Whereas, Mrs. White's soulful voice was loved by all as she sang under conviction and the anointing of God. Her singing career began in the home. Mrs. White and her sisters formed a singing group called the Evening Stars, and she later joined a quartet group called Pauline McClain and the Southern Jubilees; and

Whereas, Mrs. White sang in her church's choir, and she was one of the surviving members of Mt. Carmel's Gospel Choir known as the Mockingbirds. Her singing career did not stop there, as she instilled a love for God and singing into her children and grandchildren. She formed the Angelettes with her granddaughters, whom she loved dearly; and

Whereas, a loving person, Mrs. White was a pillar in the community, a warrior in the kingdom of God and an amazing cook. Her laughter was contagious, and she looked forward to making others smile; and

Whereas, with great generosity, Mrs. White gave back to her community as a member of the Eastern Stars and King Solomon Sons and Daughters Lodge # 13; and

Whereas, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William White; her loving parents; one daughter, Willamae White; and seven siblings, Albert Barr, Louise Nelson, Juanita Barr, Azalea Glover, Raymond Barr, Nettie B. Mose, and Sadie Flagler; and

Whereas, Mrs. White leaves to cherish her memory her eight children; three loving grandchildren reared as her own; four first cousins, with whom she shared a special bond; her adopted children; as well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express profound sorrow upon the passing of Mary B. White and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary B. White.
