A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF ANNIE ROSA BRACEY (ANNE) HOLLAND OF CHARLESTON COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Annie Rosa Bracey (Anne) Holland at the age of one hundred two on January 24, 2021; and

Whereas, born in Augusta, Georgia, on December 26, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Clara Hair Bracey and John Villepigue Bracey, and she was reared in a loving family with her brother, the late John V. Bracey, and two sisters who preceded her in death, Dorothy B. Morgan and Clare B. Kirkpatrick. She graduated with honors from Tubman High School; and

Whereas, Mrs. Holland was married to her beloved husband for sixty-five years, the late James Wilbur Holland, Sr. They were married on June 8, 1944, and together they reared three fine children: Dr. James W. Holland, Jr., who lives in Savannah, Georgia, with his wife, Judy; Clara H. Heinsohn of Charleston, the wife of the late J. Richard Heinsohn; and Robert M. Holland who lives with his wife, Cindy, in Spartanburg; and

Whereas, the Holland family moved from Augusta to Savannah, Georgia, in 1948 and then to Charleston in 1964; and

Whereas, during World War II, Mrs. Holland served in the civil service. Her last employment was, for a number of years, as a secretary in the Department of Pathology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston; and

Whereas, a devoted member of Old St. Andrews Parish Church for fifty-seven years, she taught Sunday school, worked in the annual tea room, and enjoyed participating in the St. Mary's/St. Agness Guild. She was honored to be the first female delegate to the Diocesan Convention; and

Whereas, Mrs. Holland's children blessed her with the affection of seven grandchildren: Jimmy Holland, Dr. Bracey Holland, and Emily Holland of Savannah, Georgia; Anne H. Stavrinakis who lives in Charleston with her husband, Leon; William Holland of Spartanburg, and John Holland who lives in Spartanburg with his wife, Reagan; and Joseph Holland of Anderson. She was also blessed to see the continuation of her loving heritage in her seven great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, recently a resident of Franke at Seaside in Mt. Pleasant, she was known as an excellent cook, talented seamstress, and avid reader, and she enjoyed working in her garden among her roses and hydrangeas; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Anne Holland and for the example of service and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Annie Rosa Bracey (Anne) Holland of Charleston County and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Annie Rosa Bracey (Anne) Holland.
