A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ANN SZYPULSKI, DIRECTOR OF THE LAURENS LIBRARY SYSTEM, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER TWELVE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Ann Szypulski began a well-deserved retirement during the week of January 4-8, 2021, after twelve years with the Laurens Library System, the last of which have been as its distinguished and highly-regarded director; and

Whereas, during her tenure, she oversaw many changes in the library system, including advancements in electronic services, increased partnerships with county organizations such as SC Works, initiating and supervising training classes in technology for the public, and advocating for the library at the local and state levels; and

Whereas, Ms. Szypulski searched unceasingly for funding for a new library building for the Clinton community and was able to see that important goal reached with the passing of the Capital Sales Tax initiative; and

Whereas, she helped the library celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary of bookmobile service to Laurens County and the thirtieth anniversary of the headquarters building, as well as assisting with the purchase of a new Bookmobile in 2017 and with the completion of many library improvements, including interior painting and new carpeting; and

Whereas, under Ms. Szypulski's direction, the library held many events for the entertainment and education of the residents of Laurens County, such as author talks, visiting drama productions, genealogy programs, teen and children's programs, and a special viewing party for the eclipse; and

Whereas, grateful for her many years of distinguished service to the Laurens Library System, the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina takes great pleasure in extending best wishes to Ann Szypulski as she transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the leisurely pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
